College visits, Christmas preparations, a history bee and STILL working on the bathroom.
For the most part, it is finished. I wanted to add a tiled, shimmery mirror above the vanity and after finding a few that I liked online, realized that I needed a narrower than the normal width mirror, due to my choice of wall sconce. I searched the internet for one in a proper width and almost settled on one, but decided that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. So I made one.
I ordered a mirror from Wayfair. It had a light gray frame. I was pleased with the quality. It has a sturdy wood frame.
I painted the inner molding the palladium silver that I used in the top coat of the bathroom wall, just to give it a metallic finish.
Then I went to Lowes and picked out some wall tiles.
I wanted some clear glass and some pearly/shell looking tiles. I ended up getting two different types. When I got them home, I figured that the larger tiles would make a nice border and the small ones fit inside the frame just right. I cut them out and played with arranging the mosaic.
To adhere the tiles, I used Liquid Nails and worked in small areas. The mirror sat for 24 hours. I did have 2 tiles that came loose- one wasn’t completely down all the way and another had the shell veneer come off. I just used the liquid nails to glue those down.
I used pre mixed grout in white and worked it into the cracks. To be honest, I almost didn’t grout, because I thought it looked good, but I am so glad that I did.
After 40 minutes, I sponged off the grout and realized that the inner edge of the tiles was visible. Since about half the tiles aren’t solid, but a shell veneer finish, the edge was showing. Using my finger, I put a caulk line of grout along this edge. I used an wet rag to clean up the line and let it sit again.
And here is the mirror hanging on the wall. If you can’t buy one- make one!
